Guest Information

We hope that you find the below information helpful as you enjoy our facilities as an invited guest of one of our Members.

Some of our club's customs and regulations may vary from other clubs. In an effort to assist you with your experience while visiting the Field Club of Greenwich, we wanted to make the following information available. If there is anything we can do to enhance your visit, please let one of our staff members know. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Clubhouse at 203-896-1300.

  • Display of Business Papers
    • The display of papers in the dining areas and living room is not permitted. If a business meeting is planned, please check with the front office in advance to reserve a private room.

  • Dress Code
    • The Field Club of Greenwich Dress Code

Members, their families and guests are expected to be neatly attired and maintain high standards of appearance. The Club’s dress code is intended to ensure a pleasant and dignified atmosphere in which to enjoy the Club and relies on (i) members exercising their good judgment, (ii) respect for the Club’s over 100 years of history and tradition, and (iii) sensitivity to the desires and expectations of the membership as a group.

Compliance with the dress code by a member and his or her guests is the responsibility of the member. Club staff has been charged with monitoring compliance. In instances of differing opinions, members must abide by the staff’s interpretation.

Formal military uniform is always considered appropriate attire.

The dress code is as follows unless there is an event where an exception is made by management of the Club.

Clubhouse Dining (other than the terrace, Lester Cummings Room and downstairs bar area)
Gentlemen must wear (i) collared shirts, turtlenecks, or a neat crew neck beneath a sweater and (ii) neat slacks or appropriate length shorts. Hoodies are not permitted. Shirts must be tucked in. For ladies this includes slacks, skirts, appropriate length shorts and shirts that may be collared or not. Athletic sneakers are not permitted.

Terrace, Lester Cummings Room and downstairs bar area
Athletic attire is permitted on the terrace, in the Lester Cummings Room and the downstairs bar area for those who have just engaged in a racquet sport except for formal events. One should be mindful of the athletic attire being worn in these situations given the Club’s dignified atmosphere.

Gentlemen may not wear open-toed shoes, crocs or high-top sneakers.

      Formal Events
Formal Events are Easter, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, and the Christmas dance and as otherwise indicated.

All formal events are “Jacket and Tie” other than the Christmas Dance which is “Black Tie”.

“Jacket and Tie” means dress pants, jacket and tie for gentlemen (including younger gentlemen 13 and over) and similarly formal attire for ladies.

“Black Tie” means for Gentlemen, (i) a tuxedo or (ii) the combination of an appropriate dinner jacket and appropriate trousers and, in each case, a white dress shirt and a bow tie, and for Ladies similar formal attire.

Dress Code Applicable in all Situations
Hats are never to be worn inside the clubhouse other than ladies’ non-athletic millinery. When hats are worn on campus, they shall be worn facing forwards. Neat denim is permitted (no holes or rips) unless there is a “Formal Event” or what is labeled as a Formal Event.

      Tennis Attire
Outside Courts and North Campus: Players are required to wear "all white attire" (no more than 10% color on each item) while playing tennis including trim and shoes. Appropriate tennis clothes, including tennis shoes, shirts with sleeves (gentlemen) and shorts/skirts or tennis dresses are required. Hats, if worn, are to be worn facing forward. During the period from September 15th to May 15th of the immediately succeeding year, players are allowed to wear colored warm up tops and bottoms. All other attire must be white, including footwear, both indoors and outdoors. Leggings and yoga pants (which are each considered warm-ups) are only allowed under “all white” skirts, shorts and dresses. No crop tops are allowed. The changing of attire must be done in the locker rooms or restrooms.

Players who are not dressed appropriately will not be permitted to play. In the case of guests these rules apply as well, however, if a guest has tennis sneakers that are not white the guest may play but must have white sneakers the next time the guest plays at the Club.

      Squash Attire
Colored athletic attire is permitted. Non marking shoes and eyewear are mandatory. Hats, if worn, are to be worn facing forward. The changing of attire must be done in the locker rooms or restrooms.

      Pool
Proper swimwear is required, no thongs or Brazilian cut suits. Attire at the swimming pool should be consistent with the family-friendly atmosphere at the pool. Swimming in cutoff shorts, khakis or gym shorts is not permitted. Swim attire may not be worn outside the pool area.

  • Electronic Devices
    • The Field Club is a no noise Campus and values its roles as a sanctuary where family and friends gather to play sports or enjoy a meal together. Quiet enjoyment of our facilities is not consistent with active discussion on cell phones.

Use of cellular phones for making or receiving telephone calls is prohibited on the Club grounds unless the user is seated in a parked automobile. Such incident will result in a letter from the Secretary to the Summer Guest as follows: a) first offense, a warning; b) second offense, suspension of the Guest’s Club privileges for 30 days; c) third offense, review by the Executive committee. House phones are available for local calls.

Use of electronic communication devices for non-telephonic purposes is permitted on Club grounds only if conducted in a manner which does not intrude on others’ ability to enjoy using the Club’s facilities. Such use is never allowed within the Clubhouse or the outside dining area adjacent to the Clubhouse, and violations will be subject to the same sanctions as telephonic violations.

No iPads and headphones are permitted in Clubhouse and on the Terrace.

Members are directly responsible for their children's and their guests' behavior with respect to all of these regulations.
